I know some pet parents are guilty of not washing their pet’s bowl as often as they should. Heck, we don’t even like washing our own dishes. But will it really hurt them if we don’t wash it after every meal?
According to our resident cat Munchkin, yes. He wouldn’t drink from a water bowl that hasn’t been washed for a couple days. He would purposely kick the bowl till it turns upside down. That’s his way of telling his humans that he’s disgusted.
How many of you are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl when it gets close to empty? I can safely say that it’s probably 80% of us pet parents. It’s a bad habit that we seriously need to break.
Take a look at your pet’s water bowl and examine the bottom. Run your fingers through it and you will feel the slimy residue from the water that sits around it for a long time. Disgusting isn’t it? How would you feel if you have to drink from it everyday? Food deposits are also commonly found in dirty water bowls and poses a health risk for your pets.
Cleaning your pet’s food and water bowl is very important. If you can’t do it every meal, make it a habit to do it at least once a day. Rinsing it with warm water will also help if you are in a hurry.
