In the past few decades we have seen an escalation of dog and puppy fashion. As sported by celebrities, some dogs (especially toy dogs) are wearing designer clothing and expensive accessories, sometimes costing more than the average person’s wardrobe. While many don’t see the point in it, a lot of owners like to dress their dogs in clothes, making them stand out and turn heads.
Measuring Your Dog
There are ways of choosing the right clothes for them, because just like with humans, some clothes are uncomfortable, ill fitting, or itchy. The most important thing to keep in mind is measurements—make sure you know your dog’s measurement and size, and look for that match when looking for outfits.
Material
Material is also another crucial thing to consider—for some dogs, clothes are not merely for style but also for function. Some dogs, like small ones or shorthaired breeds, might need extra warmth during cold seasons and would need thicker cloth. Since it isn’t natural for animals to have protective clothing, much less ones with bling and shine, it could be hard to get them steady in it, as they might tend to chew on it or try to get out of it. Consider also the weight you put on them, and be careful not to sacrifice too much of their comfort for how cute they look—if you must have them wear an intricate costume for Halloween, taking a few snapshots to upload on your social media sites could be enough. People don’t always wear their full costume the whole night, and dogs shouldn’t be subjected to either. Go for light and airy fabrics to ensure maximum comfort for your pets.
