Does Your Cat Picks a Box Over a Comfy Cat Bed?
Every cat owner has this dilemma; cats not sleeping in the bed that was bought for them. It’s always the case—cats sleeping everywhere but their bed; in the box, on your keyboard, in your shoes, and etc.
When we got our six month old kitten Munchkin, we were so excited to show him the fancy cat bed we got for him. Instead of using it, he chose to sleep on any available human’s chest or tummy, demand a space on our bed, or during our absence, he would find a box.
Are you experiencing the same thing that we do? How do we really find the perfect cat bed for our precious feline?
There are a wide variety of cat beds available in the market and it comes in all shapes and sizes. You would think it is the bed’s fault but actually it is the cat’s mindset.
So how do you exactly make your cat love the bed you got for them? It is not certainly all about comfort coz I am sure we have seen cats sleeping in a not so comfortable manner. What exactly is your cat looking for if not comfort? Perhaps warmth? Domestic house cats live in a warm and cozy place that is your home, so we wouldn’t think warmth is a problem and besides their thick fur coat should keep them warm enough.
Judging by our cat’s behavior, he would sleep wherever he feels like it. Whatever is available, he would choose to sleep on. So the answer is location, location, location!
All cats are not the same so you will have to carefully examine your cat and apply subtle persuasion by placing the cat bed by his most favorite place to sleep. Usually, cats love to hide in a warm and dark location. You can choose a cat bed that enables them to hide like this:
When introducing a new cat bed to your cat, make sure that it would smell familiar to them. Cats have strong sense of smell and anything new to them doesn’t guarantee that they will instantly like. To make the bed smell more familiar, perhaps use an item of worn clothing as a cover or lining. Your smell comforts your cat and will make them more at ease with the new bed.
